Earlier this month it was reported that Toyota might expand its Gazoo Racing (GR) lineup with a GR Camry, which would join the Toyota’s GR badged sports cars, the GR86, GR Corolla and GR Supra. Now a new report claims that the bZ4X electric crossover might also get a GR version.

Daisuke Ido, the bZ4X’s chief engineer, revealed to Move Electric that Toyota is considering a performance version of the bZ4X. Toyota kind of gave us a hint about a GR bZ4X, with the bZ4X GR Sport concept at the Tokyo Auto Show earlier this year.

The standard bZ4X could use a bit more power, since the dual-motor, all-wheel drive version only has 214 horsepower. There’s a chance that the GR bZ4X could adopt the more powerful 308 hp powertrain from the Lexus RZ, since they are based on the same e-TNGA platform. But if Toyota does give the green light to a GR version of the bZ4X, Ido says that it will need more than just extra power. To get the GR badge, it will need to also have to be able to handle at a level that GR buyers will demand.
