This week we learned that Hyundai is working on a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for the Veloster N, but it looks like it may have something even more exciting in the works. Currently the Veloster N packs up to 275 horsepower if you opt for the Performance Package, but it looks like Hyundai may be working on an even more potent Veloster N.

2019 Hyundai Veloster N

A leaked photo posted on The Korean Car Blog may prove that Hyundai is planning on sticking its new turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood of the Veloster N. The photo shows a Veloster N parked with a sticker on the door with “2.5 Turbo Engine” on it.

The new 2.5-liter engine generates 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft. of torque, which would make the Veloster N the perfect rival to the Honda Civic Type R, which has 306-hp and 295 lb-ft. The 2.5-liter Smartstream engine is also going to make its way under the hood of the Genesis GV80 and the new Kia Sorento.

Hyundai has yet to confirm if the 2.5-liter is going to end up under the hood of the Veloster N, so we have to wait and see. Fingers crossed!
