VW has announced that it is working on three new electric vehicle platforms, which will be used for up to 30 new electric cars.
VW has yet to recover from its diesel woes, but now that it VW is ready to move past its “clean” diesels, VW is moving its green lineup in a new direction. VW has announced that it is working on three new electric vehicle platforms, which will be used for up to 30 new electric cars.
The new EVs are part of VW’s new “Strategy 2025,” which will also include the introduction of more SUVs and budget geared vehicles. Matthias Erb, VW Group of America’s chief engineering officer for North America revealed that each of the new platforms will be modular and have a flexible chassis that can fit different wheelbases and tracks. One of the platforms, MEB (Modular Electric Toolkit) was recently used as the basis for a new concept car, called Budd-e.

The Budd-e electric van concept has a driving range over 200 miles and can be recharged up to eighty percent in as little as 30 minutes. VW hasn’t given a time frame of when the first EVs will be released, but the production version of the Budd-e is rumored to arrive by 2020.
