BMW has unveiled the M Concept Neue Klasse at Monterey Car Week. The electric performance concept is a preview of what is to come for BMW M.
After its global unveiling at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier in the year, the concept will be put on view at BMW’s House of M in Monterey. From there it will make an appearance at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Powered by a quad-motor electric powertrain and built on the next-generation Neue Klasse architecture, the M Concept shows how the brand intends to carry its performance heritage into the electric age. Individual control of power at each wheel provides for more exact torque and a keener handling response.
Underpinning the concept is the Heart of Joy, an advanced electronic system from BMW that oversees everything from the chassis and steering to braking and energy recuperation. In an M context, this control unit is there to ensure the driver gets the sort of quick, focused feel one would expect of the marque’s high-performance machines.
While BMW has yet to put any production or performance numbers on the table for the M Concept Neue Klasse, the message is plain: the automaker is not content with mere straight-line EV acceleration. With the help of electrification and software, BMW M is intent on maintaining the balance and engagement that have been hallmarks of its cars for some time.
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse can be seen in various locations throughout the week, from the House of M to Laguna Seca and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
