Mitsubishi has released the fuel efficiency ratings numbers for the electric-powered 2012 Mitsubishi i and it beats the Nissan Leaf.

The EPA has rated the Mitsubishi i at 126 MPGe in city driving and 99 MPGe out on the highway (112 MPGe combined). The Nissan Leaf is rated at 106 MPGe in the city and 92 MPGe on the highway with a combined 99 MPGe rating.

The one area where the Leaf still pulls ahead of the Mitsubishi i is the total “real world” driving range. The EPA estimates that the Mitsubishi i has a range of 62 miles, while the Leaf can reach 73 miles on a single charge.

The 2012 Mitsubishi i will go in November starting on the West Coast. It’s starts at $27,990 for the base ES model before the $7,500 federal tax credit.

“We feel that with the combination of capability, affordability, and high level of efficiency offered by the 2012 Mitsubishi i will prove very appealing to consumers considering EV transportation,” said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America.
