Chrysler has reportedly resumed production of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup, even though the EPA has yet to give approval to sell the pickup. Chrysler has yet to put to rest allegations about excess diesel emissions and undeclared emissions software.
Fiat Chrysler stopped production of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickups in mid-2016 after the EPA started questioning the emissions software in the pickups. According to employees at Fiat Chrysler’s Warren Truck Assembly plant in Michigan, the automaker is producing two dozen 2017 Ram 1500 pickups per shift with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6. It’s not known if the pickups will still wear the “EcoDiesel” badge, since prototypes have been spotted recently with a simpler “diesel” badge.
The EPA has yet to certify the diesel-powered Ram 1500 this year, after it filed an official Notice of Violation over the emissions software that it says illegally alters vehicle emissions. Most recently, in May, the Department of Justice’s Environmental and Natural Resources Division filed a civil suit against FCA due to its emissions software.
