Porsche has unveiled the next-generation 2019 Porsche Cayenne, which will arrive in the United States by mid-2018. The third-generation Cayenne has been completely revamped with a new chassis and a platform, although its exterior styling isn’t a huge departure from its predecessor.
The 2019 Cayenne gets a new lighter chassis that helps the Cayenne drop 143 pounds compared to the previous generation. The chassis uses a combination of alloy and steel, while the exterior is made mostly of aluminum. The new Cayenne also gets a lithium-ion polymer starter battery, which accounts for a 22 pound weight savings.
The third-generation Cayenne is pretty much the same size as the old one with an identical wheelbase at 114 inches, but its overall length has increased slightly to 194 inches and its 78-inches wide with the side mirrors folded. There’s also almost 15 percent more cargo capacity.
At launch the 2019 Cayenne will be available with two engine options, a 3.0L turbocharged V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft. of torque or a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 with 440 horsepower and 406 lb-ft. Both engines are mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission with five driving modes: On-road, Mud, Gravel, Sand and Rocks.
The 3.0L V6 gives the Cayenne a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds or 5.6 seconds with the Sport Chrono package. The Cayenne S with its 2.9L V6 reaches 60 mph in 4.9 seconds or 4.6 with the Sport Chrono package.
Inside the dashboard and center console are simplified with less buttons and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen. There are also two 7-inch HD displays in front of the driver, one on each side of the tachometer that display relevant driving info.
The 2019 Porsche Cayenne will start at $66,750, while the Cayenne S starts at $83,950 including the destination fees.
