It was reported that Porsche was considering a small Boxster-based roadster that would be smaller and less expensive than the Boxster, but now those plans have reportedly been abandoned.
“You won’t see anything lower than the current Boxster model,” Detlev von Platen, CEO of Porsche Cars North America recently told Automotive News. “We had many discussions about this in the group, and the decision was made that the time is not right.”

The small Roadster was called the 718 according to insiders and it was one of the several times over the past three decades that Porsche has taken a look at an entry level model. Unfortunately every time executives have decided against it.

“We’re not talking about entry models at Porsche,” von Platen stated. “Our entry model is our pre-owned program.”
