Just last week Cadillac surprised everyone when it announced that it is going to change the name of all of its cars, which will adopt a new CT naming strategy. Now Cadillac Chief Marketing Officer Uwe Ellinghaus has revealed that a new naming structure will also be applied to Cadillac’s crossovers, which will get the XT name.
Forbes is reporting that the XT name will be applied to the next-generation SRX, but the new naming convention also opens the door for more Cadillac crossovers and SUVs. What will be slightly confusing is the fact that the Escalade name will stay, since it has such a strong following.

“It’s a logical thing to give some mental space like this in your naming scheme,” Ellinghaus said. “So many other brands have done that sort of thing, across industries. It’s not rocket science. It doesn’t fit our immediate business needs, but this simple logic will help us build this brand and enhance recognition over the long term.”
