Next-Gen Subaru WRX STI may get a hybrid powertrain

A new rumor claims that the next-generation Subaru WRX STI may get a turbocharged hybrid powertrain. If the rumors are true, the new WRX STI will be powered by a revised version of the current 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that will give it a total output around 320 horsepower.

Subaru is also reportedly looking at a new all-wheel drive system that would use electric motors to power the rear wheels. Subaru recently previewed the next-generation Impreza at the LA Auto Show, but you can expect wider fenders and a large rear spoiler for the WRX STI version. The next WRX STI is expected to arrive sometime in 2017.
