Although sales of the Honda CR-Z hybrid have failed to meet expectations, Honda is reportedly working on a new one. A source has revealed that an all-new CR-Z is in the works and will arrive by 2017.
Sales of the CR-Z have been so disappointing that it’s already been discontinued in Europe and Australia and its only a matter of time until the current model disappears from the U.S. But there’s hope since a source within Honda’s R&D center has stated that the next CR-Z “will be a force to reckon with.”

The current CR-Z borrows its platform from the Jazz/Fit, but the next generation will use the same platform as the next generation Civic, but with a 100 mm shorter wheelbase. It’s expected that it will borrow some styling cues from the new Civic Type R and NSX.

The interesting part of the report claims that the next model will borrow the Civic Type R’s 2.0L turbocharged engine, instead of the current slow hybrid powertrain. In Japan a hybrid version will still be offered, in the form of a 1.5L hybrid system.
