BMW has reportedly decided against bringing its new 2-Series Gran Tourer to the United States, since it has deemed it too small for the U.S. market.
The front-wheel-drive 2-Series Gran Tourer and the 2-Series Active Tourer models measure 179-inches and 171-inches long, respectively, but there are not quite big enough to compete here. Originally BMW had said that the 2-Series Active Tourer would arrive some 15 months after it debuted early last year, but even then BMW had low expectations for it in the U.S.

This means that the X1, which measures 175 inches long, will continue to be the smallest crossover in the U.S. An all-new X1 that will be based on a new front-wheel-drive platform, is expected to arrive later this year.
