Lotus is reportedly working on a “Superleggera” version of the upcoming 2013 Lotus Esprit supercar. The Esprit Superleggera is expected to be one of Britain’s fastest and most powerful production cars. Take that Aston Martin and McLaren!

Chief technical officer Wolf Zimmermann recently told Auto Express about the plans to build a flagship Superleggera version of the next-generation Esprit. The Superleggera will be the fourth model in the Esprit range and will be sold alongside the coupe, convertible and glass-roofed Targa versions.

Zimmerman claims that the Superleggera will not be a stripped-out racer version of the Esprit, but a carefully designed evolution of the standard Esprit. It’s expected to reach 0-60 mph in less than three seconds and have a top speed of 212 mph.
