2008 Jeep Liberty Ditches its Cute-Ute Styling

Chrysler has unveiled the all-new 2008 Jeep Liberty at the New York Auto Show today. The new SUV is built on the same platform as the new Dodge Nitro, which you can easily tell.

The new Liberty adopts many of the styling cues from its larger siblings, especially the Commander.

For 2008 the Liberty receives an all new interior and exterior styling, that ditches the "cute-ute" styling of the previous generation. The SUV uses the same 3.7L V6 from the current generation and provides 210 hp and 235 lb.ft. of torque. Fuel economy has been improved 16mpg city and 22 on the highway. A six-speed manual and a four-speed auto are the transmission options.

The unique option on the new generation is the "Sky Slider" which is essentially a canvas roof that slides…very similar to the roofs that old VW Bugs had.

This new Liberty looks too much like the Nitro, I wish they had made this model more distinct. Also the interior quality is subpar, once again. When will they learn that badge engineering and poor quality will not sell cars?
