Mitsubishi is still trying to revamp its U.S. lineup and according to CEO Osamu Masuko, Mitsubishi will channel its limited resources into a more compact lineup that will largely consist of crossovers.
Mitsubishi has already killed off models, like the Eclipse and Galant and it doesn’t appear that it will stop there as the automaker refocuses its resources. Masuko recently told the Automotive News that the automaker isn’t planning a successor to the aged Lancer sedan and a replacement for the i-MiEV electric vehicle isn’t in the works either.

Rather than focus on a Lancer replacement, Mitsubishi is going to introduce a new small coupe-like crossover after the fall of 2017 that will fit in between the Outlander and Outlander Sport models. The redesigned Outlander will arrive sometime after 2017 and a new Outlander Sport should be here by 2019. All three crossovers will also be offered with an electrified powertrain in addition to the standard gasoline versions.

The Outlander and new coupe-like crossover will get plug-in hybrid powertrains, while the Outlander Sport will get a full-electric variant.
