The Lincoln Continental was revived for the 2017 model year and even though we haven’t had that long to enjoy the stylish sedan a new report claims that it will disappear in a few years. Sources claim that the Lincoln Continental will once again be discontinued after the current sedan’s production run.
According to the guys over at Ford Authority, the Continental will be discontinued in a few years, but there isn’t a clear reason why. Sales of sedans continue to fall, even Honda is having trouble selling its excellent new Accord, so it’s not too surprising to hear that a big sedan is being discontinued. Crossovers and SUVs continue to steal potential sedan buyers. Sales of the Lincoln Continental peaked in December 2016 with 1,845 units sold and since then sales have continued to slide.
Even though sedan sales in general are off, what’s even worse for the Continental is that its closest competitor, the Cadillac XTS continues to outsell it. In February 2018, Cadillac sold 1,943 XTS sedans, while Lincoln only managed to move 758 Continentals.
While the Continental may be a disappointment, not all is bad at Lincoln. The all-new Lincoln Navigator is selling quite well with sales up almost 50 percent in the first two months of this year.
