Lexus teased the idea of a new flagship crossover with the LF-1 Limitless concept that debuted earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show. Now it looks like Lexus is serious about growing its crossover lineup and we now may have our first hint at what the future flagship could be called – the Lexus LQ.

Lexus trademarked the LQ name last week, which will likely be used by the new flagship crossover. The “L” portion of the LQ name follows the brand’s tradition of having all of its flagship models start with an L, like the LS, LC and LX. We’ll have to wait and see what the Q stands for, since Lexus doesn’t currently us the letter Q for any of its models.

There’s a rumor that we could see the Lexus LQ debut as early as the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, but Lexus hasn’t released any details. There’s also the chance that the LQ name could simply be used for a future concept, instead of a production model or Lexus may not use it for anything. Stay tuned.
