Lexus continues to look for ways to add more emotion to its vehicles, which has seen the introduction of the spindle grille and F performance sub-brand. Now Lexus is looking to the future and how it can further expand the F brand by introducing electrified high performance models and maybe even a successor to the LFA supercar.

2018 Lexus RC F

AutoExpress caught up with Lexus president Yoshihiro Sawa at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where he provided some hints about what we might see from Lexus in the not too distant future. Up until now all the F branded models, like the IS F, RC F and GS F have all been powered by a naturally-aspirated V8, but that will likely change.

“F is very important; with F we have to think of our own original way,” Sawa stated. “One solution could be a pure F GT car, which could be a hybrid with an electric motor and a strong engine, giving a different kind of drive feel. We don’t stick to V8, V10, twin-turbocharged; they’re important but we’re looking at the future. We’d like to find a way to connect to the next era.”

While future Lexus F models might get hybrid powertains, we’ll have to wait and see if Lexus decides to build a new supercar. When asked about Lexus being able to build a sports car based on the new Toyota Supra/ BMW Z4 project, Sawa declined to comment, “I can’t speak about that.”
