A few days ago it was reported that Polestar will unveil its second model, the Polestar 2 next spring at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Up until now we haven’t heard too many details about the Polestar 2, but Polestar’s CEO Jonathan Goodman recently revealed some info about its Tesla Model 3 rival.
Speaking to Autocar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Jonathan Goodman revealed that the Polestar 2 will have a driving range up to 350 miles. “That’ll represent the lower ‘bookend’ of our showroom range and, for now, it should give us as much access to the volume end of the EV market as we need.”
Pricing for the Polestar 2 is expected to range from £30,000 to £50,000 ($37,000 – $66,000 US), which pits it directly against the Model 3.
Polestar hasn’t revealed any concepts or design sketches of the Polestar 2, but it will reportedly take some styling cues from the Volvo 40.2 concept that debuted last year. The 40.2 concept debuted alongside the 40.1 concept, which was a preview of the Volvo XC40. The Polestar 2 is slated to enter production by the end of 2019, which means it will likely arrive in 2020, which will then be followed by the electric Polestar 3 SUV.
Even though Polestar is Volvo’s electrified brand, Goodman also revealed to the publication that he does not want Polestar to be seen as a “cultish” brand like Tesla and instead be more inclusive.
“I think it’s very dangerous for brands like ours to sit here and ask ‘what’s our type of customer?”, Goodman stated. “Electric cars will be just as appealing to young executives as they are to London retirees. It’s a new market, and purchase intentions will vary. So we’ve got to be a welcoming brand that’s not geeky, cliquey or judgmental.”
