Last year Jaguar previewed a future Jaguar SUV with the C-X17 concept and even though a production version is expected to debut soon, Jaguar is now telling us that it won’t be billed as an SUV.
Jaguar Land Rover boss Ralf Speth reportedly told Autocar in an interview that the upcoming production version of the C-X17 will not be called an SUV. “A Jaguar SUV is not possible,” said Speth. “SUVs and 4x4s are for Land Rover. The Jaguar concept is far more road-orientated. It will need a different kind of name.”

Right now internally it’s being called a “sports crossover,” but that could change by the time that production starts.

The production version of the C-X17 is expected to go on sale in 2016.
