Hyundai already offers several electrified models, like the Kona Electric and Ioniq, but those models share their platforms with gas powered models as well. Now Hyundai is ready to go even further with the release of its first electric car, based on a new EV platform that will arrive in 2020.
Hyundai plans to invest heavily in electrified models over the next few years, since it plans to introduce 44 electrified models by 2025. Hyundai will invest $40 billion in the next five years to develop new vehicles with $2.95 billion dedicated to new electrified vehicles $2.2 billion for autonomous vehicles.
Not much else is known about Hyundai’s new electric car, but we can expect it to have a driving range over 250 miles when it arrives next year. Hyundai also expects to have a Level 4 autonomous vehicle ready by 2021.
Hyundai also recently confirmed that the 2020 Ioniq Electric will get a battery upgrade to give it a longer driving range.
