Hyundai has revealed the changes to its 2018 model lineup, which includes the addition of the new Kona SUV and the restyled Sonata. Sadly not all the news is good, since Hyundai has removed the Azera from its lineup in the United States.
Hyundai says that the Azera has been killed off, since it’s basically been squeezed out of the lineup by the Sonata and the Genesis G80.
“2018 Sonata has increased its comfort, technology, dynamics, design and performance. In addition, though distinct from the Hyundai brand, the Genesis brand continues to broaden the appeal of its mid-luxury G80 and premium luxury G90 models with attributes appealing to buyers holding the Azera on the periphery of purchase consideration.”
Sales of the Azera have dropped off sharply over the past few years, so it’s not surprising that Hyundai has decided to let it go. The Azera, which is known as the Grandeur, will continue to be sold in South Korea.
