Ford is reportedly working on a new hybrid model to compete with the Toyota Prius, according to two sources who revealed that it will arrive in late 2018.
Ford is reportedly working on a new hybrid model to compete with the Toyota Prius, according to two sources who revealed that it will arrive in late 2018. The new hybrid will be a compact car that will be Ford’s first “dedicated” hybrid, meaning that it will be built from the ground up as a hybrid model.
The new 2019 Ford Hybrid could also be offered in several body styles like the Prius, in addition to different gasoline-electric drivetrains, which will include a plug-in hybrid model. The hybrid model will be built on Ford;s C2 global compact platform and is known internally as C240. The C2 platform will also be the basis for the next-generation Focus and Escape.

Ford does offer the C-MAX and Fusion hybrids, but C-MAX sales are actually down 29 percent this year, while Fusion Hybrid sales are up 24 percent.
Today’s news follows yesterday’s reveal that Hyundai is also possibly working on a new dedicated hybrid as well.
