No one likes blackouts, but if you own the Ford F-150 Lightning, you’ll have a friend that can keep the lights on at your house. Ford has announced that the F-150 Lightning can act as a power source if your house experiences a power outage.

This is thanks to the Ford Intelligent Backup Power system that was developed by Ford. The system features the level 2 Ford Charge Station Pro wall charger and the Home Integration System, which includes a dark start battery, a power inverter and a transfer switch to allow the house to draw power from the F-150.

According to Ford, the F-150 Lightning with the optional extended-range battery can store 131 kilowatt-hours of power and deliver up to 9.6 kilowatt hours. The average home uses about 30 kilowatt hours of power per day, which means that the F-150 Lightning can power a home up to three days. That number can be extended to 10 days with the use of solar power or rationing.

Ford has not announced the pricing for the Home Integration System. Ford has also stated that Sunrun is the preferred partner to install the system.
