The first retail production 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R fetched a whopping $ 1 million over the weekend at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. All proceeds from the sale of the Shelby GT350R VIN#001 will benefit JDRF, the country’s leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.
The Shelby GT350R debuted last week at the Detroit Auto Show and brings to life an even more potent version of the GT350. The Shelby GT350R is powered by the same 5.2L flat-plane V8 as the GT350, which generates more than 500 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque. The GT350R gets a revised suspension with a lower ride height and it weighs less than the GT350 thanks to the deletion of the air conditioning, rear seats, stereo system and exhaust resonators.

The Shelby GT350R managed to trump the sale of other first-production models at the auction, like the first Cadillac CTS-V and Corvette Z06 Convertible.
