In addition to unveiling the all-new 2019 A6 next week at the New York Auto Show, a new report claims that Audi will also unveil a new version of the R8. It’s being reported that a new version of the R8 is going to debut with Porsche’s 2.9L biturbo V6.
The 2.9L biturbo V6 powers the Porsche Panamera and Audi is already using for the RS4 and RS5 models. The choice to add the V6 to the R8’s options list is an attempt to fill the void left by the old naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8. The V6 is likely to get a few upgrades to give it more power than the Panamera or RS models, with Autocar reporting that it could have around 500 horsepower and up to 500 lb ft. of torque.
We’ll have to wait until next week to see if the report is true. Sadly it’s also been reported that the R8 will likely disappear after this generation.
