This month Audi took the wraps off the e-tron electric crossover, which is going to arrive next year, but if you want a crossover with a plug-in hybrid powertrain instead, Audi is working on that too. Audi is currently working on a Q5 plug-in hybrid, dubbed the Q5 e-tron.

Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 e-tron will be powered by Audi’s next-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will give it an electric driving range up to 42 miles. Audi powertrain director Siegfried Pint confirmed the report to Autocar. He also confirmed that the A6 e-tron and Q3 e-tron are also in the works, which are part of Audi’s plans to launch 10 plug-in hybrid models by 2025.

The Audi Q5 e-tron will be powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, with an electric motor powering the rear wheels. Even with its green powertrain, the Q5 e-tron will actually be quicker than the standard Q5 with the 2.0L four-cylinder.

Audi hasn’t confirmed when it will reveal the Q5 e-tron will debut, but it could happen by the end of the year, with sales starting sometime in 2019.
