Volvo has opened the order books for the 2026 Volvo EX90, and the brand’s flagship electric SUV is getting some key upgrades for the new model year. Thanks to an all-new 800-volt electric architecture, the EX90 can now charge faster and deliver improved efficiency, while updated hardware and software bring more advanced safety and driver-assistance features.

The shift from a 400-volt to an 800-volt system cuts down on heat during charging, allowing the EX90 to add about 155 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Volvo’s in-house battery management software further optimizes charging, making the process faster and more consistent. The new architecture also means more power for stronger acceleration while using energy more efficiently.
On the tech side, the EX90 benefits from a major core computer upgrade built on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin. With 500 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of computing power, the SUV can now run more advanced collision avoidance, driver support, and over-the-air updates. Owners of the 2025 EX90 will also receive this computer upgrade for free with a scheduled service visit.
New safety features include connected alerts that warn drivers about slippery roads, hazards, or accidents ahead. The SUV also integrates Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) with automatic e-call functionality. If the driver becomes unresponsive, the EX90 can safely bring itself to a stop in its lane and automatically contact an emergency call center for help. Automatic emergency steering has also been expanded to work in darkness, and Park Pilot assist makes parallel parking easier.
Rounding out the list of updates is a new electrochromic panoramic roof, first introduced on the Volvo ES90, which lets drivers adjust glass transparency to reduce glare or increase privacy at the touch of a button.
