With the 2028 Jaguar Type 01 now on display, the automaker’s reinvention is no longer a matter of speculation. The new four-door electric GT is the first major statement of where the brand is headed and, by Jaguar’s own reckoning, the most potent production model it has ever put together.

Beneath the low-slung body and extended hood lies a purpose-built electric platform that puts out 1,015 horsepower. An 850-volt electrical system is at work here as well, giving an estimated 400 miles of EPA range and the ability to put 200 miles back on the clock in 13 minutes with a 350-kW DC fast charger.
While those figures are enough to make the Type 01 a flagship EV, Jaguar does not want its grand tourer to be lost in the pack of high-performance electrics. A glance at the car makes the distinction plain.

The Concept’s Drama is Now Road-Worthy
In terms of proportions, the Type 01 is set apart from the run of modern EVs. Where others might go for a cab-forward look to get more room inside, Jaguar has taken the opposite tack. The long hood and sleek four-door profile are more in keeping with a proper grand tourer.
The design is meant to be extravagant, with clear ties to such icons as the E-Type and XJS, though not in any way that would be seen as an imitation. According to Jaguar, the designers put pen to paper with nothing but a single line to begin with, in order to forge a new identity rather than tinker with what came before. It is also billed as the most aerodynamic road car the company has made, if one can take their word for it in the absence of a published drag coefficient.

The Most Powerful Jaguar in History
What you see under the bodywork is the new Jaguar Electric Architecture, a bespoke setup for the brand. At over 1,000 horsepower, the Type 01 is the most powerful of them all.
Jaguar has been tight-lipped on the specifics of torque or acceleration times, but with that much power available, speed will not be an issue. The question is how the performance is delivered. The company is keen to position the Type 01 as a luxury GT and not an electric super sedan; the idea is to have power in reserve for an effortless experience, not just to post a fast 0-60 time.
Then there is the matter of range. The 850-volt architecture and support for 350 kW of DC fast charging are all part of a plan to deliver 400 miles on the EPA cycle, which is exactly what one would want from a vehicle of this sort. Jaguar says a good, powerful charger will put 200 miles of range on the Type 01 in 13 minutes. For a vehicle meant to cover some serious ground, that is no small figure. One gets the impression Jaguar has made long-range and quick charging a top concern with the Type 01 rather than just putting together an EV with raw power.
What you won’t have yet are the battery capacity or AC charging specs; those have not been put forward.

A New Chapter for Jaguar with the Type 01
There is more at stake here than your average new-model launch. The Type 01 is the first real sign of what the brand’s dramatic repositioning over the last few years means for its production cars. Jaguar is not interested in volume. It is going upmarket with cars where performance, design and exclusivity are paramount.
You will see that in the Type 01. It is not an electric stand-in for one of the marque’s old sedans. With its minimalist surfaces and overblown proportions, it is meant to be unmistakably of this new generation. Whether the market will warm to such a change is another matter, but Jaguar has not been conservative about it.
Sales are slated to start in mid-2027 and pricing for the Type 01 is slated to be in the $120,000 to $130,000 range.
