Jaguar’s dramatic reinvention is kicking into high gear, with the historic brand revealing the Jaguar Type 00 Concept at Miami Art Week.

Beginning with the concept’s name itself, the “Type” part is a reference to the brand’s other pioneering models like the iconic E-Type. Next, the first “0” refers to zero tailpipe emissions, while the second “0” references this concept’s status as the very genesis of the brand’s new chapter.

The Jaguar Type 00 Concept debuts an entirely new design philosophy for the brand, which it calls “exuberant modernism.” The company says this new approach fuses fearless, forward-thinking design with holistic sensory experiences.

The concept certainly delivers on those tenets with a shape unlike anything else on the road. The overall profile, featuring a very long hood and cab-rearward proportions, recalls the shape of the famed E-Type coupe. The rest of the vehicle dispenses with any allusions to the past with fresh, almost brutally geometric shapes and detailing.

The front features no traditional grille; this is an EV, after all, instead having a ribbed rectangular center section featuring the Jaguar name flanked by very thin, piercing headlights that have a slightly feline shape.

The side of the Jaguar Type 00 Concept features hand-finished brass ingot accents with the Leaper logo laser etched into them. These sections can “theoretically” deploy from the side of the vehicle to reveal rear-facing cameras when needed. Huge 23-inch alloy wheels in a 5-spoke design with brass detailing, butterfly doors, and a blunt rear window line impart the Type 00 with a sense of drama that’s hard to ignore.

The controversial design decisions continue at the rear, where the Jaguar Type 00 Concept takes inspiration from the Polestar 4 by omitting a rear window with drivers instead relying on a camera system to see behind them. In its place is a solid hatch that motors up to reveal a storage compartment. A distinctive “strikethrough” patterned rear resembles a giant grill and conceals rear taillights that span the entire width of the vehicle to emphasize its width.

Inside, the Jaguar Type 00 Concept is as original as its exterior. Here, you’ll find no cushy leather and glossy burl wood trim as in Jaguars of yore. Instead, passengers are treated to a lean, minimal interior composed of unique textiles, burnished bronze trim, and even travertine stone accents. Two floating screens arise from either side of the dash, deploying when needed and folding away when not.

A bit of concept car whimsy is the “prism case,” which can be found stowed behind a motorized door on the outside of the vehicle. Three totems (one of travertine, one of brass, and another of alabaster) can be selected by the driver and placed within the Type 00’s center console inside. Once placed there, it changes the interior’s ambiance through lighting, sound, and even scent to create a distinct sensory experience. You definitely won’t find that anywhere else.

Jaguar has shown two versions of the Jaguar Type 00 Concept, one in Inception Silver Blue or London Blue, and one in Satin Rhodon Rose or Miami Pink, a reference to the city’s art deco architecture.

Jaguar’s Chief Creative Officer, Professor Gerery McGovern OBE, said, “Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy. It has an unmistakable presence. This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavour.”

For now, the Jaguar Type 00 Concept is mostly a design exercise, with the brand not revealing much in terms of technical details. Jaguar mentioned that they are aiming for 478 miles of range on the WLTP cycle and 430 miles on the EPA cycle for the production version, with the ability to add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes on a DC fast charger.

We’ll learn more about the reinvented Jaguar next year when they are set to reveal their first production vehicle, a 4-door GT sedan with styling heavily influenced by what we’ve seen here on the Jaguar Type 00 Concept.
