Volvo has decided to ditch the “Recharge” name that was used for the electric XC40 and C40 models. For the 2025 model year the the XC40 Recharge has been renamed the EX40 and the C40 Recharge is now the EC40.

The new naming convention aligns the two EVs with the other new Volvo electric vehicles, the seven-row EX90 and the entry-level EX30. Besides the new names, the EX40 and EC40 look identical to the former Recharge models.
