Audi has unveiled the 2025 Audi A5 & S5 in both sedan and wagon (Avant in Audi speak) guises as a replacement for the current A4 line, which will see itself transformed into an EV model in the future as the brand changes its naming convention.

This new A5 family will be built on the firm’s all-new PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture, which is an update to the previous MLB platform. This new platform will give the new A5 & S5 models a longer wheelbase, with 2.7 more inches of separation between the axles. This longer wheelbase should mean increased legroom and an even better ride.

Stylistically, the 2025 Audi A5 is a distinct upgrade from the current A4 with a more interesting design, improved proportions, and flashy lighting treatments. Buyers will be able to choose between sedan and wagon, though it’s notable even the sedan version will feature a rear liftback tailgate, allowing it to have more fluid lines and increased versatility.

The face of the new A5 family will feature sleeker headlights and leaner grille treatment. A new, flatter Audi symbol is mounted higher on the grille, giving it a more dynamic appearance. The new LED headlights will feature user-customizable lighting signatures that can be changed via the interior touchscreen.

The profile of both sedan and wagon versions will feature stunning, flowing lines with an arching roofline and muscular flared fenders. Around back, buyers will find a full-width taillight arrangement with OLED elements that can be changed to the user’s delight via the touchscreen, just like the headlights. Audi has long been a pioneer when it comes to lighting, and it’s great to see them continue to push the boundaries with fresh, new lighting ideas.

Overall, the 2025 Audi A5 & S5 will have a much more dynamic appearance than the current A4, which, in a shrinking sedan market, will be essential for it to resonate with buyers.

Inside, the 2025 Audi A5 builds on the company’s newly established design direction as seen on vehicles like the new 2025 Auid Q6 E-Tron, featuring a large curved control center that pairs an 11.9-inch digital driver’s display with a 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Buyers will be able to opt for a 10.9-inch touchscreen on the passenger side that can do things like play YouTube videos and look up navigation waypoints.

The overall design of the new A5 family’s interior is suitably clean and modern, featuring interesting details like fabric trim options, intricate seat stitching patterns, multiple trim options including wood and carbon fiber, and user-configurable ambient lighting. Audi promises more interior space as well, giving riders more space to stretch out and enjoy all that new luxury.

In Europe, motivation for the 2025 Audi A5 will come by way of multiple powertrain options. The base engine will again be the trusty 2.0-lt turbo TFSI four-cylinder that has been updated with a variable-geometry turbocharger and an improved combustion process for increased efficiency. This engine will come in two guises, making 148 hp in FWD models and 201 hp in Quattro AWD versions, with the more powerful version likely to be the one we’ll see make its way to US shores.

The second option available to European buyers will be an updated version of the 2.0-lt TDI turbodiesel that will also now feature a new mild-hybrid arrangement. This updated TDI will deliver 201 hp, with the electric motor able to boost that number by an extra 24 hp, and will come with a dual-clutch automatic transmission in either FWD or Quattro AWD configurations. This engine, however, is very unlikely to come to the US.

Buyers of the performance-oriented 2025 Audi S5 will get an updated 3.0-lt V6 TFSI engine, which will get a mild-hybrid setup this time, allowing it to achieve 362 hp, 13 hp more than the outgoing S5. All S5 buyers will also receive a dual-clutch S tronic automatic transmission as well as AWD courtesy of Audi’s Quattro sport differential with torque vectoring.

Dynamically, Audi says the new A5 & S5 will get an overhauled suspension and steering arrangement for more precise handling. Buyers will also be able to opt for an adaptive suspension that allows them to change from more comfort-oriented dynamics to more sporting at the press of a button.

European buyers can order theirs later this month, with deliveries starting in November. US availability, including pricing information, will be released at a later date.
