Next month Volkswagen is going to debut two new versions of the eight-generation Golf, the much loved Golf GTI and the diesel-powered Golf GTD. Some of us still may haven’t forgotten about the Dieselgate scandal, but VW says that the diesel engine in the 2021 Golf GTD will be the “cleanest turbo diesel injection (TDI) engine ever to be installed in a Golf.”

Volkswagen is employing a new twin dosing SCR with double AdBlue injection system that significantly reduces NOx emissions compared to its predecessor. “This makes the TDI in the new Golf GTD one of the cleanest combustion engines in the world.”

VW isn’t saying how much power the 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine will have but a leaked slide shows that it will have 197 horsepower, which is 16 more horsepower. The old engine had 280 lb-ft. of torque, so we’ll have to see if the updated engine generates more torque as well.
