We’re still waiting for Toyota to unveil the Corolla hot hatch, but in the meantime, Toyota has unveiled the 2021 Corolla Hatchback Special Edition. It comes exclusively in Supersonic Red, but act fast, since Toyota is only going to build 1,500 units.

The Corolla Hatchback Special Edition is based on the SE trim level and adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, and a body kit that includes a front splitter, side skirts, a black rear roof spoiler, and a rear bumper garnish.

Under the hood there’s a 168 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a CVT.

Toyota hasn’t announced when it will unveil the hotter Corolla GRMN, but it did state, “the 2021 Hatchback Special Edition foreshadows even more excitement still to come in the
hatchback segment …”

There are a few updates to the 2021 Corolla Hatchback as well, including rear seat mounted airbags, which means that it now has 10 airbags. Rear Cross Traffic Alert with a Blind Spot Monitor is now standard on the XSE trim level and optional for the SE trim level with the SE Preferred package.

For buyers that want more cargo space, there’s a new Enhanced Cargo Space option that lowers removes the spare tire and lowers the cargo floor to add an additional 6 cu. ft of cargo space to give it a total 23 cu. ft.

Lastly there are two new color options: Magnetic Gray Metallic and Wind Chill Pearl.
