The new 2021 Acura TLX has received the highest safety rating, Top Safety Pick+, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The 2021 TLX has a higher rating than its predecessor, since it improved from an acceptable to a good rating in the driver-side small overlap front crash test. It also earns a good rating for passenger-side small overlap protection.
To earn the top award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in six crashworthiness tests, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle also needs to earn advanced or superior ratings for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention and must offer acceptable- or good-rated headlights across all trims.
The TLX’s standard front crash prevention system earned superior ratings in the Institute’s vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. It’s LED projector headlights were rated as good.
