The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is not only more stylish than the outgoing model, but it also is now more fuel efficient. VW has announced that the 2019 Jetta has a 30 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and a combined 34 mpg rating. The combined rating is 2 mpg more than the outgoing automatic equipped Jetta.
The seventh-generation 2019 Jetta is actually bigger than the outgoing model, but VW was able to make it more efficient by optimizing the engine, making the body more aerodynamic and by employing shutters in the front grille. The shutters in the front grille can close at certain speeds when the engine needs less airflow to make the exterior more aerodynamic. New underbody panels have also been added to help ensure suspension components don’t create unnecessary air obstructions.
The 1.4-liter TSI engine is more efficient thanks to a clutch-driven air conditioner that reduces pumping losses, a more efficient generator and a smoother-flowing grade of oil. The stop/start system that is standard on 2019 Jettas with an automatic transmission and helps reduce fuel consumption in stop-and-go traffic by as much as 6 percent. The new 8-speed automatic transmission has a wider band of drive ratios that allow more efficient running at higher speeds. Lastly the Jetta gets new low rolling-resistance tires that reduce resistance by up to 25 percent.
The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will be available in S, SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium trim levels when it arrives in the second quarter of 2018. Pricing for the 2019 Jetta starts at $18,545.
