Porsche has unveiled the updates to the 2019 911 GT3 R race car, which is basically a racing version of the 911 GT3 RS. The big news is that the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 R gets a horsepower increase from 500 to 550 horsepower, in addition to some updates to the aerodynamics and braking system.

The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 R is powered by a 4.0L flat six-cylinder engine that is largely identical to the engine that powers the GT3 RS. The naturally aspirated engine not only generates more horsepower, but its power is now available over a broader rev range, giving it better driveability. The engine is mated to sequential six-speed constant-mesh gearbox with paddle shifters.

The 911 GT3 R’s body is also closely related to the GT3 RS with its distinctive wheel arch air vents on the front fairings that increase downforce at the front axle. The large rear wing also provides aerodynamic balance. To keep everything under control, the braking system has been improved with increased stiffness and more precise control of the ABS.

Safety was also a big concern with the latest updates, so the 2019 911 GT3 R’s FT3 safety fuel cell can now be refilled from the left or the right and the doors and the side windows can be removed. The new racing bucket seats are now bolted at six points. In addition, the driver is protected thanks to a side impact element positioned in the driver’s door, which consists of a carbon-fibre Kevlar aluminum construction with energy-absorbing plastic foam.

Pricing for the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 R starts at $547,830.
