Hyundai’s luxury Genesis brand is ready to take on one of the most competitive segments in the segment – the compact luxury sedan segment. Genesis has unveiled the 2019 Genesis G70 sedan, which is slated to arrive in U.S. showrooms early next year.
When the Genesis G70 arrives it will have a long list of rivals, but the biggest one that it has to beat is the BMW 3 Series, which has dominated the segment for year. Many have tried to take on the 3 Series, but very few have come close.
According to Genesis, the G70 features the brand’s new “athletic elegance” design language. Although its easy to see many of the same design cues from the larger Genesis sedans in the G70.
In terms of performance, the 2019 Genesis G70 will be offered with four- and six-cylinder engines with either rear- or all-wheel drive. The base G70 will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. A Sports package bumps the horsepower up to 251. If you want more power, the G70 Sport will be powered by the same 3.3L turbocharged V6 as the G80 Sport. The V6 generates 364 horsepower and 375 lb-ft. of torque. According to Genesis, the G70 Sport can reach 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. If you live outside the U.S. you’ll be able to also choose a 200-hp 2.2L diesel four-cylinder.
Both engines will be mated to an eight-speed automatic in the United States, but if you want a little more fun, the four-cylinder will offer a manual option. A sportier version of the 3.3L V6 will be offered in 2019.
Inside the seats are covered in quilted diamond-stitch leather, which also covers the doors. An eight-inch touchscreen dominates the center console and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
