Earlier this month, Ford unveiled the all-new 2019 Ford Focus, which is going to be offered in several markets around the world. While Ford confirmed engine options, like the 1.0-liter EcoBoost and new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, Ford stopped short of revealing what will power the next Focus ST. Well now a new report claims that the next Focus ST will be powered by the same 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder as the outgoing Focus RS.
According to Autocar, the 2019 Focus ST will be powered by a detuned version of the same 2.3L four-cylinder as the current generation Focus RS. If the report is true, that means that we can also expect the next Focus ST to have around 250 horsepower.
Since the Focus ST is adopting the old 2.3L engine, what does that mean for the next Focus RS? Well the next-generation Focus RS is expected to arrive in 2020 with an electrified powertrain. The latest rumor states that the next Focus RS will be powered by a 2.0L engine that’s mated to an electric powertrain to give it around 400 horsepower.
While the new Focus is being labeled as a 2019 model, here in the U.S. we will not get the new Focus and Focus ST models until sometime next year, as 2020 models.
