Mazda has announced the updates to the 2018 Mazda CX-5, which goes on sale next month. Even though the current CX-5 only went on sale earlier this year, it’s already getting some updates, like new cylinder-deactivation technology.
The CX-5 is powered by a 187-hp 2.5L four-cylinder and the new cylinder-deactivation technology automatically shuts down the two outside cylinders at cruising speeds. By shutting down half the cylinders, the 2.5L engine will be slightly more efficient, although Mazda hasn’t announced the MPG improvements. Also Mazda still hasn’t made any announcements about the diesel-powered CX-5 that we’e been waiting for.
The 2018 CX-5 now comes standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped shift knob, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. The base CX-5 Sport starts at $24,150 and comes standard with cloth seats, LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, and a 7-inch infotainment system. The Sport i-ACTIVSENSE Package adds High Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane-Keep Assist, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart Brake Support, rain-sensing windshield wipers and automatic on/off headlights.
If you step up to the CX-5 Touring ($26,215) you’ll get 19-inch wheels, leatherette seats, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone auto climate control, and the i-ACTIVSENSE safety features. The available Touring Preferred Package includes auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, a BOSE 10-speaker audio sound system, navigation, a power glass moonroof, and a power liftgate.
The top 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring ($29,645) adds a memory driver’s seat, power front passenger seat, leather seats, LED fog lights and taillights, Adaptive Front-lighting System, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The available Grand Touring Premium Package includes windshield-projected Active Driving Display head-up unit with Traffic Sign Recognition, heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats and windshield wiper de-icer.
