Ferrari is officially saying goodbye to the Ferrari California T with the introduction of the 2018 Ferrari Portofino. The Ferrari Portofino gets its name from the Italian city that is synonymous with elegance, sportiness and understated luxury.
The California T successor gets an all-new chassis, that’s lighter with better torsional rigidity. Ferrari hasn’t released how much the Ferrari Portofino weighs. The Portofino is powered by a 3.9L biturbo V8 engine that has been reworked to generate more power, with a final output of 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft. of torque. The upgrades give the 2018 Portofino a 0-62 mph time of only 3.5 seconds and its top speed is set at 199 mph, slightly faster than the old California T.
The 2018 Portofino also gets Ferrari’s third generation electronic rear differential, integrated with the F1-Trac, to improve both mechanical grip and the control of the car. The Ferrari Portofino is also the first GT in the range to be fitted with electric power steering. This allowed the engineers to reduce the steering ratio by seven percent for even more responsive steering without a trade-off in stability thanks to the integration with the new electronic rear differential. Lastly the damping system has been uprated with dual-coil technology.
The Portofino’s interior also gets some upgrades, like a new infotainment system with 10.2” touchscreen display, a new air-conditioning system, a new steering wheel, and 18-way electrically adjustable seats with a new backrest design that boosts legroom for rear seat passengers. The new wind deflector which, when the top is dropped, cuts air flow inside the cabin by 30% and also reduces aerodynamic noise.
