The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is now 35 years old with very little updates since it was introduced, but some big changes are coming for the 2017 model. It’s being reported that the iconic G-Class SUV is going to be a bit wider to improve its stability and at the same time it will be around 400 pounds lighter.
Thanks to the use of more aluminum the G-Class will be significantly lighter than today’s model and its high speed stability will be better thanks to a body that will be around four inches wider. It’s also going to get a new front suspension.

Last year was the best sales year ever for the G-Class, so Mercedes-Benz is being careful to not stray too far away from the current models iconic styling. So we can expect it to retain its boxy styling, but with a sleeker face. It may also take some styling cues from the Ener-G-Force concept. Inside the interior will be a lot more modern and spacious thanks to the increased width.
