Earlier this year Kia unveiled the GT4 Stinger 2+2 sports car concept at the Detroit Auto Show and since then there have been several reports that a production version is on the way. Unfortunately Kia’s Director of Overseas Marketing, Lee Soon-nam doesn’t believe that the timing is right for a Kia sports car.
Lee Soon-nam recently told Automotive News that Kia needs work on strengthening its brand image and awareness before it can build more niche products like production versions of the GT or GT4 Stinger concepts. Also part of the problem according to Lee Soon-nam is that the sales volumes of a sports car would be too low to be profitable.

“The volume will be smaller and then we can’t enhance the brand image fully,” Lee Soon-nam stated. “We would like to build our brand image to some level. Then we can maximize the effects of the new car launch.”

It was previously reported that the production version of the GT4 Stinger concept was going to arrive later this year, but with these latest comments, it may not happen.
