VW has released this teaser photo of the new concept, which may finally preview a production version. According to Autocar, an announcement about the production version will come shortly after the concept version debuts next month. If the reports are true, the production could arrive as early as 2017.

The reason that the concept is debuting at CES and not the Detroit Auto Show, is because it will showcase a host of new technologies, like autonomous and connectivity systems. The concept will also debut a new electric powertrain. The electric powertrain is most likely part of VW’s new modular MEB electric platform. The MEB platform will have a much longer driving range than today’s e-Golf EV with a driving range between 185 and 310 miles.
