VW has announced that production of the US-spec two-door version of the GTI will end in a couple weeks, leaving the four-door to carry on the iconic badge.

The news isn’t all that surprising since two-door models continue to lose market share. VW says that its dealers and buyers mainly wanted the four-door GTI, so it decided to streamline the GTI lineup by only offering a single body style. VW made a similar move with the high-performance Golf R, which is now only offered as a four-door model.
