VW’s new electric cars will all ride on a new platform called the new modular electrocution kit (MEB), which was first previewed with the Budd-e concept earlier this year. The platform features a large battery that sits in the vehicle floor and up to two electric motors, one on each axle. Driving range for the electric cars will range from 155 miles up to 310 miles, which could change as we get closer to the launch date.

The MEB platform is very important to VW, since the automaker has committed to launching 30 new electric cars by 2025, which should help it move past the current diesel emissions scandal. The first electric car will arrive sometime in 2019 as a 2020 model.
