The production version of the ID. Buzz is one of Volkswagen’s highly anticipated electric cars and originally it was slated to arrive in the U.S. in 2022. Now we have some bad news, since Volkswagen has announced that the U.S. launch of the ID. Buzz has been delayed until 2023.

VW I.D. Buzz Concept

Volkswagen of America CEO Scott Keogh announced the sad news in an interview with Automotive News. “I wish it was coming next year,” Keogh stated. “It’s not going to come quite as soon as that; it’s going to be a little bit later than that.”

Why is it delayed? The ID. Buzz will be built at VW’s Hanover, Germany plant, instead of the plant in Zwickau, Germany, where the ID.3 and ID.4 are being built. VW needs more time to retool the Hanover plant, since it currently builds commercial vehicles.

The ID. Buzz concept was unveiled in 2017 and since then buyers haven’t stopped asking when the production version will arrive. “The reaction’s been huge, and we just got to get it here,” Keogh added.

For now, we’ll have to celebrate the arrival of the first electric car from the ID. family, the ID.4, which is arriving in the US as a 2021 model.
