Last month it was discovered that Volkswagen has trademarked the names Atlas Allsport and Atlas Cross Sport, which provided some proof that the automaker is planning other variants of the Atlas. Now Hinrich Woebcken, VW’s CEO of the North American Region has confirmed that the Atlas badge will be used on more than just the current three-row crossover.
At an event for the Mk7 Jetta, Woebcken revealed that the “Atlas family” as he called it, will soon expand. Although he stopped short of revealing any other details about what we can expect from the other Atlas models. He did state that VW does want another volume seller and even hinted at a coupe. The Atlas Allsport or Atlas Cross Sport names could be used for a smaller more coupe-like crossover.
Woebcken also hinted that VW does want to introduce a smaller SUV than the Tiguan in the U.S. Even though VW recently introduced the compact T-Roc in other markets, it has no plans to offer it in the U.S.
