Volkswagen could be working on new versions of the Atlas crossover, since VW has reportedly trademarked the “Atlas Allsport” and “Atlas Cross Sport” names in the U.S. The trademarked names could hint at either different trim levels of the Atlas, since the Allsport name is similar to the Golf Alltrack.

The Atlas Allsport could be a more off-road ready version of the Atlas with extra body cladding, bigger wheels and more ground clearance. It’s less clear what the Atlas Cross Sport could be, although maybe VW is working on a smaller version of the Atlas with a shorter wheelbase? Maybe a five passenger version that could compete against Honda’s upcoming five-passenger SUV, which may bring back the Honda Passport name. Plus Chevy is also reportedly bringing back the Chevy Blazer.

Sadly we won’t know about either name until VW releases some tidbit of information. There’s also the chance that the trademarked names could simply just be VW’s way of making sure that no other automaker uses them, even if it also has no plans to.
