Volkswagen, just like every other automaker, sees the huge profits that the SUV segment provides. Because of this, Volkswagen has confirmed that it will expand both the Atlas and Tiguan lineups in the US. VW recently confirmed to Automotive News that both models will get two-row versions in the future that will appeal to buyers that don’t really need 7 passenger seating.

We’ve already reported that VW plans to expand the Atlas lineup. It’s even already trademarked the Atlas Allsport and Atlas Cross Sport names, which could be used for a new Atlas coupe that will arrive in the next few years. The Atlas “coupe” will feature sleeker styling than the standard Atlas and only have two rows of seats.

Volkswagen Group of America CEO Hinrich Woebcken also confirmed that the Tiguan will get a second version that will be slightly smaller, but its wheelbase will be the same length.

VW hasn’t confirmed when either model will be introduced.
